Blackjack 3:2 vs 6:5: Check the Natural Payout Before You Play

A blackjack table that pays 3:2 on a natural returns more than one that pays 6:5 for the same stake. On a ₦100 stake, a 3:2 natural pays ₦150 profit and returns ₦250 in total. A 6:5 natural pays ₦120 profit and returns ₦220 in total. The difference is ₦30 each time that same ₦100 natural is paid.

Check the opened table's rules before wagering. Do not infer the payout from the game name, deck count, lobby artwork or another table. This is general blackjack education, not a claim that any particular Lotwin table, stake, payout, provider or feature is currently available.

Find the natural-blackjack rule

A natural blackjack is normally the first two cards totalling 21: an Ace plus a ten-value card. The natural payout is separate from the ordinary 1:1 payment for many other winning hands.

Look for wording such as:

  • Blackjack pays 3 to 2 or Blackjack pays 3:2;
  • Blackjack pays 6 to 5 or Blackjack pays 6:5;
  • a rules table that states a different natural payout;
  • exceptions for a dealer blackjack, a push or a special variant.

If the rule is not visible in the table information, do not assume the familiar 3:2 example applies. The broader blackjack learning hub explains hand values and table-rule variation.

Calculate a 3:2 payout

The ratio 3:2 means the profit is three units for every two units staked.

profit = stake × 3 ÷ 2

total return = stake + profit

For a ₦100 stake:

profit = ₦100 × 3 ÷ 2 = ₦150

total return = ₦100 + ₦150 = ₦250

For a ₦500 stake, the same calculation gives ₦750 profit and a ₦1,250 total return. These examples assume the stake is accepted and the hand qualifies as a natural under the displayed rules.

Calculate a 6:5 payout

The ratio 6:5 means the profit is six units for every five units staked.

profit = stake × 6 ÷ 5

For a ₦100 stake:

profit = ₦100 × 6 ÷ 5 = ₦120

total return = ₦100 + ₦120 = ₦220

For a ₦500 stake, the profit is ₦600 and the total return is ₦1,100.

Stake 3:2 natural profit 3:2 total return 6:5 natural profit 6:5 total return Difference in profit
₦100 ₦150 ₦250 ₦120 ₦220 ₦30
₦200 ₦300 ₦500 ₦240 ₦440 ₦60
₦500 ₦750 ₦1,250 ₦600 ₦1,100 ₦150

The table compares only the natural-blackjack payout. It does not predict how often a natural will occur in a session or calculate the complete house edge for every rule combination.

Do not confuse payout with total return

A payout ratio usually describes profit, not the amount credited after the original stake is returned. For a ₦100 natural at 3:2, ₦150 is the profit and ₦250 is the total return. At 6:5, ₦120 is the profit and ₦220 is the total return.

When checking a result, separate three figures:

  1. the accepted stake;
  2. the profit under the displayed ratio;
  3. the total return, including the returned stake.

This distinction also matters when reading a transaction or game-history record. Save the displayed rule and round record rather than sharing account credentials, payment details or identity documents.

Check the other rules on the same table

The natural payout is important, but it is not the only rule that affects blackjack maths and decisions. Before using a strategy chart, also check:

  • the number of decks;
  • whether the dealer hits or stands on soft 17;
  • whether doubling after a split is allowed;
  • which pairs can be split again;
  • whether surrender is available;
  • how a dealer and player natural are settled;
  • the accepted stake range shown on that table.

The basic blackjack strategy guide explains why a chart must match the actual rules. The hard-hand and soft-hand guide helps classify Ace-based totals before making a decision.

Keep insurance and even money separate

Insurance is a separate side wager commonly offered when the dealer shows an Ace. Even money is the same insurance trade-off presented when the player already has a natural under common rules. Neither changes a 6:5 table into a 3:2 table.

Read the natural payout first, then evaluate any optional side wager separately. The insurance and even-money guide shows the break-even maths and explains why the offer is not universal protection.

Use a five-step pre-play check

  1. Open the actual table rules or help panel.
  2. Find the exact natural-blackjack payout.
  3. Calculate profit from the displayed stake and ratio.
  4. Check the remaining deck, dealer, split, double and surrender rules.
  5. Save the rule screen if the payout will affect a later records check.

A lower payout increases the house's long-run advantage relative to an otherwise identical game, but neither payout predicts the next hand or guarantees a session result. Set a money and time boundary before play, never increase a stake to recover a loss, and stop if gambling is causing financial or emotional harm. Responsible Play lists non-commercial support options and safer-play boundaries.
