A craps Buy bet backs 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 to roll before 7. It commonly pays at true odds, then applies a commission. The important check is not only the advertised payout: verify the selected number, the commission rate and basis, whether the fee is charged when the wager is placed or only after a win, and how the table rounds amounts.
This is general craps education. It does not claim that a particular Lotwin craps table, Buy bet, commission, payout, limit, provider or feature is currently available. The opened table's rules and accepted wager record are authoritative.
Identify the number and win condition
A Buy wager is attached to one point number. Under common rules, the selected number must appear before 7 for the wager to win. Other totals normally leave it unresolved.
| Selected Buy number | Common true-odds profit ratio | Meaning before commission |
|---|---|---|
| 4 or 10 | 2:1 | ₦1,000 accepted stake produces ₦2,000 gross profit |
| 5 or 9 | 3:2 | ₦1,000 accepted stake produces ₦1,500 gross profit |
| 6 or 8 | 6:5 | ₦1,000 accepted stake produces ₦1,200 gross profit |
These ratios are examples for a common ruleset, not a universal paytable. Confirm whether the table offers Buy bets on every listed number, whether the wager is working, and whether it rounds the accepted stake or payout.
The Craps Learn hub explains the wider point-and-seven sequence. If you are comparing ordinary number wagers, the Place-bet payout guide keeps its displayed payouts separate from Buy-bet true odds and commission.
Check what the commission is based on
A common Buy-bet commission is described as 5% of the amount wagered, but the actual basis and rounding rule must be read from the current table. Do not assume the fee is 5% of the profit or that every stake is accepted without rounding.
For a clearly stated example with a ₦1,000 accepted Buy stake and a 5% commission on the stake:
commission = ₦1,000 × 0.05 = ₦50
Keep four amounts separate:
- accepted stake — the amount placed on the Buy number;
- gross profit — the true-odds profit before commission;
- commission — the fee under the displayed basis and timing;
- total returned — original stake plus net profit after the applicable fee.
If the screen shows only one balance movement, use the individual wager record to verify which components were included.
Verify when the fee is charged
Two common commission treatments have different losing outcomes:
- Commission charged upfront: the fee is taken when the wager is placed. If 7 appears first, both the accepted stake and the upfront fee may be lost under that stated rule.
- Commission charged only on a win: no fee is charged on a losing decision; the commission is deducted only after the selected number wins.
This timing changes the effective cost even when the displayed rate and true-odds payout are the same. Read the rules for wording such as “vig on bet,” “commission on win,” or an itemised fee. If the timing is not clear, do not infer it from another table.
Calculate net settlement, not just gross profit
Using a ₦1,000 accepted stake and a 5% commission on that stake, charged on a win, the arithmetic is:
| Buy number | Gross profit | Commission | Net profit | Total returned |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 or 10 | ₦2,000 | ₦50 | ₦1,950 | ₦2,950 |
| 5 or 9 | ₦1,500 | ₦50 | ₦1,450 | ₦2,450 |
| 6 or 8 | ₦1,200 | ₦50 | ₦1,150 | ₦2,150 |
The formulas are:
net profit = gross profit − commission
total returned = accepted stake + net profit
If commission is taken upfront, check whether the wager record displays the accepted stake and fee separately. If the table rounds the fee, calculate with the actual displayed amount rather than forcing the exact ₦50 example.
Distinguish Buy from Place, line odds and Lay
A Buy wager can look similar to other craps wagers but settles differently:
- Place bet: backs a number before 7, commonly using a stated payout rather than true odds plus commission.
- Pass/Come odds: follows an established line point and commonly pays true odds without the Buy-bet commission, subject to the allowed multiple. The odds-bet verification guide explains the flat-versus-odds split.
- Lay bet: backs 7 to appear before the selected number, so it normally risks more to win less and can carry its own commission rule.
Do not compare only the headline payout. Compare the event being backed, accepted stake, fee basis, fee timing and net returned amount under the same table rules.
Save minimal settlement evidence
Before committing money, record only what is necessary to understand the wager:
- table or game title and rules version shown;
- selected Buy number;
- accepted stake;
- true-odds payout;
- commission rate, basis and timing;
- whether the wager is working;
- transaction or round identifier if a settlement question arises.
Do not share passwords, one-time codes, complete payment credentials or identity documents in screenshots. If the recorded settlement differs from the displayed rule, use the verified support route available in the product and preserve the smallest useful evidence.
Use the rule as a cost check, not a prediction
True-odds wording does not make a Buy wager risk-free. The commission creates the house advantage, and short sessions can vary sharply from the long-run probability. No wager sequence changes which dice total comes next.
Set a loss and time limit before play, do not chase a fee or prior result, and stop if gambling is causing harm. The Responsible Play page provides safer-play boundaries and independent support routes. If the opened table does not clearly disclose the number, payout and commission treatment, the safest choice is not to place the wager.
